Sailor Suits

Papa and Nana are finally back from winter in Florida! Papa came up to Boston on a recent visit and he brought the twins sailor suits - which I must admit are pretty darn cute.

Ava doesn't smile much when sitting next to Colin... probably because he now thinks yelling is pretty funny and she does not. Only when we get her alone does she like to be the smiliest girl in the world.

Are these Sailor stripes or prison stripes or maybe we just hate being posed for pictures.

Five Months Old Today!

Wow, what a gorgeous weekend in Boston this is turning out to be! Yesterday we went for a walk around Jamaica Pond and Daddy got to stop and fish a little (they just stocked the pond with trout!)... Colin zonked out, but Ava was checking out all the nature.

The twins got to wear summer clothes and nice wide-brimmed hats. We slathered them up with Banana Boat Baby with SPF50... and although this sunscreen is not completely chemical-free, it is PABA-free and avobenzone-free (and Coppertone is not). Even I put some SPF15 on and yet, I still got color on my shoulders!

In the afternoon, we brought them out on the back deck with us while we listened to the Red Sox game on the radio and sipped on some beers. Ahhh, feels like summertime.

We knew Colin was such a sweaty boy, but now that it's warm, we're in for some serious sogginess. We traded out the heater and the humidifier in their room today with a fan, so hopefully with the white noise machine, it'll provide enough buffer against the city noises. Last night, we also switched out Colin's fleece swaddle with a cotton one, and we need to buy one for Ava as well because I don't think they're ready for night-time sleep without being swaddled. But they are 5 months old today, so we'll see how much longer it'll be.

Oh and Daddy didn't catch any fish...

And here is another of Dad... the day HIS Mom brought him home...

And here we go WAYYY back - here is Papa (Dad's Dad) at 3 months.

Waking Up in a New Crib

Ever since we've had the twins they have been sleeping side by side in their crib. They are such good sleepers - even one crying wouldn't wake the other up.

One month old here - the crib was so spacious back then!

We started with them perpendicular in the crib, but after a while they had to go a little diagonal. Eventually, they were all-the-way diagonal and finally, they were very quickly outgrowing the tandem crib situation...

So, this past weekend, we put another crib in the nursery - and Ava moved out! No problems with the transition... I think that Ava is very appreciative of her new space, especially since we put a pretty girl mirror in her crib. I wouldn't call her vain, I just think she likes to look at someone other than her stinky brother. Sorry Colin!

I just had to take a video of them waking up yesterday since we were thrilled that they slept from 9pm until 7:15am through the night without waking up at all... that's a regular occurance for Ava, but Colin usually wakes up at least once. Love those rare all-nighters!

Bonus cut of Ava at the end of the vid... I just thought she was being cute.

Twin Flipbook

Here are some pics using the continuous shot setting on the new camera. The expression on Colin's face depicting his increasing level of wonder/confusion about the things Mommy was doing off-camera to get his attention...

Colin Tries Solid Food

Colin is at the point where we decided to introduce him to the world of Big Boy Food! Really, it was just formula barely-thickened with rice cereal - but it was in a bowl! And he ate it from a spoon!

He did really well - better than we expected to be honest. He kind of opened his mouth and gulped it down. We tried a little with Ava, but she pushed it all out with her tongue.

Here is the Big Boy's big moment...

Vital Stats at Four Months

Yesterday we went to the doctor for the twins' four-month visit - complete with ouchie booboo shots. This was not a pleasant experience. The worst part is how happy and cooing they were with the doctor when he was examining them. They were happy and patient little patients, and then the big bad nurse came in. It's like good cop, bad cop. There's a reason why the doc does his exam before the shots... he gets it easy, then he bolts and lets the nurse do the dirty work!

Ava went first and when Colin heard her cries of sheer terror, he chimed in even before he was given his first prick. All I have to say is THANK GOD they love riding in the car b/c that completely calmed them.

Their schedule was completely shot for the day due to fussiness and crying thinking back to the painful memory of the shot monster. Hopefully today we can get them back on track... they woke up blissfully happy and we hope it stays that way!

Here are their stats:
Ava is now 10lbs1oz with a length of 23.25" and a head circumference of 38.5cm. Her length gets her up into the 5th percentile, but her weight and head are just below. However, her growth curve looks fantastic, she was just a petite petunia when she was born so she'll catch up eventually!

Colin (aka Big Bruiser) weighs in at 12lbs12oz... 7 ounces more than 2 weeks ago, so we think his reflux is under control now. He is 24" long and his big head measures up at 42cm. His head circumference gets him into the 25th percentile and his weight and length are in the 10th percentile. He has "el noggin grande". He, too, has a great growth curve.
